In light of AMD's upcoming Ryzen platform, it's too early to count AMD out of the race. The original issue raised a stink until a work around (MS AHCI drivers) was discovered.
Please complain to Samsung about this issue. With version 5.0, it doesn't matter which AHCI driver you have - the software looks right at the chipset, sees the VID 1002 identifier (meaning AMD made it), and says 'No RAPID mode for you!' With 4.x versions, secret was to install Microsoft driver (and reboot), enable Rapid mode (and reboot), then switch to AMD AHCI driver (and, you guessed it, reboot again) for that slightly improved performance the AMD AHCI driver provides over the stock MS driver. Pdf documentation has not been updated fully for 5.0 - it still shows a driver limitation (use Microsoft AHCI driver or AMD's 'newest' AHCI driver (which never worked with installing RAPID mode on AM3+ platforms, but might have worked for FM2+).
Instead, it disables RAPID mode, entirely, for AMD chipsets!
Was hoping it might enable RAPID mode for more than one Sammy SSD at the same time. Samsung Magician 5.0 has been out for two weeks now.
