I also tended to favor using a fully modded 10mm and a fully modded Hunting Rifle for long-range encounters. However, you may as well find Handmade Rifle to be extremely good. rifle builds / sniper builds are sorta versatile enough that you don't really need to rely on VATS and it's slightly better if you don't b/c if you can land crit sneak headshots you can pretty much one shot kill anything that moves (cept probably some legendary creatures and certain enemies like the legionate and joshua grahmm).
and ocasional revolvers, cowbow style, for a survival difficulty playthrough, the idea is to take advantaje of tactical aproaches and long distance kills before going in. I plan on making a new courier using a build focused around guns like the Service Rifle and All-American, but I don't really know what the best setup would be. Charisma is the least important attribute for this Solo build.
